Chemical attack and corrosion
Chemical attack and corrosion was severely wearing the tube sheets of this heat exchanger. A Belzona coating was chosen based on service and operating conditions.
Heat exchanger is isolated
Heat exchanger is isolated from adjacent equipment.
Tubes are sealed
Tubes are sealed using corks before surface preparation commences to prevent blasting media from entering them and potentially wearing the internal wall.
Surface cleanliness as per SSPC SP10
Surface cleanliness as per SSPC SP10 (Near White Metal) with average 3 mil profile and no soluble ion contamination embedded into profile
Coating application
Coating application can be carried out by hand (brush/roller) or airless spray
Corks are pushed
Corks are pushed inside the tubes and removed by compressed air
Any remaining
Any remaining Belzona product on the tube edges is removed by chamfering in a conic manner
Tube sheet
Tube sheet is now protected against chemical attack and corrosion and unit is put back to service.
